Moisture management for container cargo

Desiccants for Containers

Container desiccants help manage humidity and condensation risk during ocean freight and storage. Select the quantity and installation plan from the route, season, transit time, cargo, packaging and container condition.

BENZPACK™ BE DRY ULTRA®

Designed for containerised cargo exposed to changing temperature and humidity over long transit routes. A complete moisture plan also considers container condition, cargo moisture, packaging and airflow.

  • Formats for practical distribution inside the container
  • Placement planned around cargo, lashing and door clearance
  • Quantity selected from the actual route and exposure case

Shipment assessment

Size for the route and cargo

Container volume alone is not enough. Use the shipment case to decide the quantity, distribution and installation method.

01

Route and season

Record origin, destination, transshipment points, departure month and expected journey time.

02

Cargo and packaging

Identify hygroscopic materials, pallets, cartons, liners and any product moisture entering the container.

03

Container condition

Check for holes, wet flooring, damaged seals, residual odour and signs of previous water entry.

04

Placement plan

Distribute units so they remain secure, exposed to the airspace and clear of cargo movement and doors.

Installation sequence

Inspect, distribute and close

Install container desiccants immediately before final closure, following the instructions for the supplied format.

Container desiccants spaced along the sidewalls before final cargo loading
Distributed placementKeep each unit secure and exposed to the container airspace
Container desiccant secured at an upper lashing point away from moving cargo
Secure installationUse the attachment method approved for the supplied format
Final inspection of container desiccants and dry cargo before door closure
Final checkConfirm quantity, clearance and closure before dispatch

Buyer questions

Container desiccant FAQs

Use these points before finalising the loading plan and purchase quantity.

What causes container rain?

Temperature changes can cool humid air and container surfaces below the dew point, allowing condensation to form. Wet cargo, timber and packaging can add more moisture to the enclosed airspace.

How many container desiccants are required?

The number depends on the route, season, transit time, cargo and packaging moisture, container condition, ventilation and the absorption performance of the selected format. Calculate for the actual shipment.

Where should container desiccants be installed?

Use the fixing method specified for the supplied format. Distribute units through the airspace, secure them against movement and keep them clear of cargo damage and door operation.

Do container desiccants replace dry cargo and sound containers?

No. Load dry cargo into a clean, dry, structurally sound container. Desiccants are one part of the moisture-control plan and cannot correct active water entry or wet materials.
